Yahoo Messenger YMailAttach ActiveX control buffer overflow
Overview
The Yahoo Messenger YMailAttach ActiveX control contains a buffer overflow, which could allow a remote, unauthenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code on a vulnerable system.
I. Description
Yahoo Messenger is an instant messaging application. Yahoo Messenger includes several ActiveX controls. The YMailAttach ActiveX control, which is provided by ymmapi.dll, contains a buffer overflow vulnerability.
II. Impact
By convincing a user to view a specially crafted HTML document (e.g., a web page or an HTML email message or attachment), an attacker may be able to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the user. The attacker could also cause Internet Explorer (or the program using the WebBrowser control) to crash.
III. Solution
Apply an update
As specified in the Yahoo Security Update, this issue is addressed in versions of Yahoo Messenger from Nov 2nd 2006 or later. Version 2005.1.1.4 or higher of ymmapi.dll contains the fix.
Disable the YMailAttach ActiveX control in Internet Explorer
The Yahoo YMailAttach ActiveX control can be disabled in Internet Explorer by setting the kill bit for the following CLSID:
{AA218328-0EA8-4D70-8972-E987A9190FF4}
More information about how to set the kill bit is available in Microsoft Support Document 240797. Alternatively, the following text can be saved as a .REG file and imported to set the kill bit for this control:

Disable ActiveX
Disabling ActiveX controls in the Internet Zone (or any zone used by an attacker) appears to prevent exploitation of this and other ActiveX vulnerabilities. Instructions for disabling ActiveX in the Internet Zone can be found in the "Securing Your Web Browser" document.

Lỗi này do chính Yahoo công bố và nó thuộc ymmapi nên có lẽ chưa có exploit information đâu.
Chính thông báo trên cho biết lỗi này thuộc phần mail attach dùng activeX và nó thuộc dạng buffer overflow nên việc dò tìm lỗi cũng không quá cực đâu. Còn script hay shellcode cho exploitation này thì anh không có.

Chậc bug của ymmapi à bác. Bug này thì lỗi tới tất cả các phiên bản gòi, mà khai thác chắc là khó vì ko biết bug nàm chỗ nào trong dày asm của nó, trong khi yahoo có điên mới tạo Information Exploit cho nó :wink: |

Lỗi bảo mật nguy hiểm trong Yahoo Messenger
TTO - Các phiên bản Yahoo Messenger phát hành trước ngày 02-11 đều bị ảnh hưởng bởi lỗi bảo mật trong phần điều khiển ActiveX có thể bị khai thác bởi hacker, chiếm dụng điều khiển hệ thống.
Lỗi này xuất phát từ lỗi tràn bộ đệm trong tập tin “YMMAPI.YMailAttach” (ymmapi.dll) trong phần điều khiển ActiveX có thể bị khai thác bởi các cuộc tấn công từ xa có chủ đích để vận hành các câu lệnh bất kỳ bằng cách dẫn dụ người dùng truy cập vào một trang web được “tái tạo” lại cho phù hợp với mục đích riêng.
Lỗi được đánh giá là rất nguy hiểm, Yahoo khuyến cáo người dùng đang sử dụng các phiên bản Yahoo Messenger 5.x, 6.x, 7.x và cả 8.0.x nên cập nhật lên phiên bản mới nhất Yahoo Messenger 8.1.0.209 để chống lại lỗi bảo mật này.
Số lượng người dùng Yahoo Messenger ở Việt Nam hiện nay chiếm tỉ lệ khá cao. Tuy nhiên, khi sử dụng Yahoo Messenger, người dùng cũng bắt đầu trở thành "mồi ngon" cho các tay hacker "mũ đen" khai thác các lỗi bảo mật, phát tán các đường liên kết virus qua việc lợi dụng sự tò mò của người dùng, đánh cắp mật khẩu ... Lưu ý sử dụng các chương trình anti-virus, chạy ở chế độ thời gian thực và luôn luôn cập nhật cơ sở dữ liệu virus mới nhất.
